CC 600 Peus Curts - 7 bedrooms
This attractive hilltop house has unobstructed views of the impressive pre-Pyrenean Berguedà chain of mountains to the north, and several other mountain chains to the east and mythic Montserrat mountain to the south. This property has a lot going for it: recently restored using the original stones and furnished with quality rustic furnishings, the brand new swimming pool, measuring 8x4m, is just up from a large playroom with pingpong & table football. The new 60m2 outdoor BBQ dining area is great too, but what really stands out are the spectacular views. Even with a lesser house, the views would make any stay at this property memorable!
Location: Peus Curts is situated on a 150-hectare (370-acre) cow farm (the cows are kept far away, don´t worry!), just a couple of quick kilometers off the main C-16 highway between Barcelona and Andorra (and Paris!). The walk to the town of Gironella is about 2.5 km, and Gironella is the market town I prefer in this area, with an attractive main strip running along the Llobregat river, with a good selection of shops and cafes and restaurants - see my on-line guide to the area for more info and the Google Earth photo of the location in the slideshow above.
The house: On the ground floor there is a large central room with a a long dining table and a sitting area with sofa, 42" wide screenTV and fireplace. The kitchen is well equipped, with gas burners and electric stove, extractor, a large fridge, dishwasher and a washing machine.
On one side of this central room not far from the kitchen is a short hallway which leads to
- bedroom 1) a large master bedroom with double bed (150x200cm) with private full bathroom with half bath/shower.
On the other side of the central room are two more bedrooms:
- bedroom 2) with a (150x200cm) double bed
- bedroom 3) with two (90x200cm) single beds.
- these two rooms share a bathroom with half bath/shower
A staircase from the vestibule leads up to another central living room with flat screen 50" TV, and the four bedrooms distributed around it:
- bedrooms 4) & 5) with (150x200cm) double beds
- bedroom 6) with two (90x200cm) single beds
- bedroom 7) with three (90x200cm) single beds.
- There is a good-sized shared full bath in the hall with half bath/shower.
The house has exposed stone walls in most rooms, and an attempt has been made to maintain some of the original wooden beams and there are nice new terracotta floors throughout.
Below the ground floor is a recreation room which is empty in the summer months when the ping and babyfoot are taken up to the bbq area porch. Still, this 80m2 room can be used as a covered play room.
Across from the fenced pool is a new covered barbecue area with wooden bench seating for up to 20 guests and a food prep area with a tap for outdoor cooking.... But above all, you have the views, practically 360º of uninterrupted views of some very interesting and varied landscape in the foreground, and the serrated tops of the low-Pyrenees all around you. It really is quite breathtaking. A well oiled swing hangs from a 100 year old oak tree in the grassy esplanade in front of the house and there´s a basketball hoop too, and at night, the lights of Berga, the regional capital, twinkle in the distance. Rates vary from €15 to €27 per person per night (based on 15 guests) so the price is OK and I guarantee you one thing: you will never forget the views!
